Road Construction 2008
Here is a rundown of major
construction projects in central Ohio in 2008:
FRANKLIN COUNTY
I-71
Weekend concrete overlays of bridges over Velma Avenue and Cooke
Avenue. Major rehabilitation of the
bridge over 17th Avenue. Parapet sealing and minor substructure
repair over Morse Rd. Maintain 2 of 3 lanes
on I-71 during weekend overlays. For work over 17th Avenue,
close 17th, maintain 2 lanes of I-71 on the
exit/entrance ramps of 17th Ave and 1 lane on the bridge over
17th Ave. For Morse Rd. work, shoulder
closures on I-71 and Morse. Completion: Summer 2008
Noise wall installation on I-71 at various locations between 5th
Avenue and the pedestrian bridge. Shoulder
closures during off peak hours. Start: Summer 2008 Completion:
Summer 2009
I-270
Concrete slab repairs in
approximately 212 spot locations on the west outerbelt. Single
and double lane
closures on I-270. Maintain at least 1lane during nighttime and
weekend hours only. Completion: May 2008
Bridge rehabilitation with deck and
approach slab overlay on the structures from I-270 westbound to
SR 315
and from SR 315 northbound to I-270 eastbound. On the northbound
to eastbound ramp, maintain 1 of 2 existing lanes using part
width construction. Weekends only. Completion: June 2008
Realignment of ramp from I-270
eastbound to SR 315 southbound to eliminate the inside merge.
Part width
construction of the eastbound to southbound ramp. 1 of 2 lanes
closed on the westbound to southbound ramp.
Full closures of I-270 to SR 315 southbound ramps nightly
9pm-5am. Completion: Fall 2008
Realignment of the SR 315 southbound to I-270 westbound ramp to
distance it from the new Hard Road
intersection with SR 315. Maintain 2 lanes on SR 315 southbound
except for brief off peak periods to set
traffic control. Southbound to westbound ramp will close for 30
days. Detour will be the three loop ramps at
the interchange. Completion: Fall 2008
I-270/State Route 161
Northeast Expressway
Transformation (NExT). Major reconstruction of SR 161
interchanges at I-270 and
Sunbury Road on the northeast side of Columbus. Various off peak
single and double lane closures and
shoulder closures will occur for project finalization items such
as seeding and mulching, sign work, bridge
painting and final paving. Completion: August 2008
U.S. Route 23
Partial depth pavement repair and
resurfacing from SR 104 to I-70/I-71suspended between Lawn
Avenue and
Barthman Avenue. Maintain at least 1 lane in each direction on
the 4 lane section. No lane closures between
6am-9am and 4pm-6pm. Start: Spring 2008 Completion: Summer 2008
Resurfacing and partial depth pavement repair in the City of
Columbus on US 23 (Indianola/Morse/High) from
Hudson Street to Stanton Avenue except a portion between Oakland
Park Avenue and Cooke Road. Maintain
at least 1 lane per direction on the 4 lane section. 9am-3pm and
6pm-6am. Maintain 1 lane of 2 way traffic
with flaggers on the 2 lane section. 8pm-6am. Start: Summer 2008
Completion: Fall 2008
U.S. Route 62
Corridor upgrade at the Frank Road
intersection and from Midland Avenue to Belmead Avenue. Pavement
replacement, turn lane additions, storm lines, curb and gutter
installation, new signals, signs and pavement
markings. Maintain 1 lane in each direction. Various left turn
restrictions with signed detours. Week long
closures of Little, Geneva and Belmead Avenues with signed
detours.Start: Summer 2008 Completion: Fall 2009
Main Street bridge replacement over the Scioto River in downtown
Columbus. Main Street is already closed.
Bikepath will be detoured. Washington Boulevard will close
between Town Street and Main Street.
Start: August 2006 Completion: June 2009
State Route 3
Resurfacing project from Cleveland
Avenue to Morse Road with partial depth repairs and bridge work.
Maintain 1 lane of 2 way traffic with flaggers at night.
Completion: June 2008
State Route 16
Widening, resurfacing and removing
the concrete median between Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road and
Blacklick Creek. Bridge replacement over Blacklick Creek.
Maintain existing two lanes in each direction with
turn lanes at Reynoldsburg-New Albany Rd intersection. No lane
closures permitted between 7:30am-8:30am
and 4:30pm-6pm. Temporary stoppage of traffic during off peak
hours for steel beam placement. Completion: Fall 2008
State Route 104
Left turn lane construction at the
intersection of SR 104 and SR 665. Part width construction
maintaining the
existing 1 lane in each direction by shifting traffic to
temporary pavement. Completion: Fall 2008
Concrete overlays on Haul Rd, 6th Ave and Parsons Ave over SR
104. Full closure with signed detours over
the weekend. Detour is I-71 to I-70 to US 33 and
reverse.Completion: Fall 2008
State Route 161
Resurfacing project on 2 routes in
3 counties near the Village of Plain City including SR 161 in
Franklin
County from the Madison County line to the Union County line.
Maintain 1 lane of 2 way traffic with
flaggers. Completion: September 2008
State Route 256
Resurfacing and partial depth
pavement repair on 1 mile of SR 256 from US 40 to the Licking
County line.
Maintain 1 lane of 2 way traffic with flaggers in 2 lane
section. Part width construction maintaining 1 lane in
each direction in the 4 lane section. Work hours 7pm-5am
weekdays and weekends. Start: Summer 2008 Completion: Fall 2008
State Route 665
Bridge replacement over Linebaugh
Ditch and bridge deck replacement over Plum Run. Maintain 1 lane
of 2
way traffic using a temporary traffic signal. Completion: June
2008
Hard Road
Widening of Hard Road from Linworth
Road to SR 315. Maintain 1 lane per direction on Hard Rd except
between 9am-3pm for 5 days when it can be closed and detoured
for traffic set-up. Close and detour Old
Olentangy Road for 30 days. Occasional side street
closures.Completion: Fall 2008
Roberts Road/Hilliard-Rome Rd
Widening from 2 to 5 lanes between
Roberts Road and Scioto-Darby Road. Part width construction
maintaining 2 lane, 2 way traffic with left turn lanes. Side
streets will be closed and detoured long enough to
complete construction on side streets
Widening of Roberts Road from
Rome-Hilliard Road to I-270 from 2 to 5 lanes with curb and
gutter.
Maintain at least 1 lane in each direction on Roberts Road.
Cross roads are allowed to be closed individually
and detoured to other cross roads on weekends only. Completion:
Summer 2009
International Gateway Interstate 670
Part 1 - construction at the
intersection of International Gateway and Stelzer Road. Work
includes
relocation of 4500 feet of International Gateway, constructing
connecting roads and widening of Stelzer Road.
Maintain 2 lanes in each direction on International Gateway
using temporary roads and pavement. Single lane
closures allowed during off peak airport hours. Maintain 1 lane
in each direction on Stelzer Road. Completion: November 2008
Part 2 - grade separation and
modifications to several ramps. Single and double lane closures
on I-670 during nighttime hours. Short term temporary ramp
closures at night for setting steel. Maintain 1 of 2 lanes in
each direction on International Gateway during off peak hours
(8pm-4am eastbound, 1am-7am westbound) Completion: Fall 2009
Delaware County
U.S. 42
Replacing the bridge over the CSX
railroad including abutment upgrade and substructure repair.
Resurfacing and abutment backwall repairs of the bridge over
Liberty Road. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with signal for
90 days over the CSX railroad. Full closure of the Liberty Road
bridge from Friday 10 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m. Maintain 1 lane of
2-way traffic with flaggers for temporary pavement installation.
Resurfacing project on US 42 through 2 counties including nearly
7 miles in Delaware County from the Union County line to just
south of the CSX railroad in the city of Delaware. Maintain 1
lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
State Route 4
Partial pavement repair and
resurfacing project on SR 4 through 3 counties including 2 miles
in Delaware County from the Union County line to the Marion
County Line. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
State Route - 37
Resurfacing nearly 7 miles from SR
37 from Columbus Street in the Village of Sunbury to the Licking
County line. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
State Route 656
Chip seal project including partial
depth repairs and crack sealing from SR 61 to the Morrow County
line. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
Madison County
State Route 161
Resurfacing project on 2 routes in
3 counties near the Village of Plain City including SR 161 in
Madison County from Chillicothe Street (old US 42) to the
Franklin County line. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with
flaggers.
State Route 729
Resurfacing project on SR 729
through 2 counties including nearly 2 miles in Madison County
from the Fayette County line to SR 323. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way
traffic with flaggers.
Amity Pike
Bridge replacement and realignment
over the Big Darby Creek. Full closure. The detour is Plain
City-Georgesville Road (CR 7) to Cemetery Pike (CR 34) to
Smith-Calhoun Road (CR 37) and reverse.
Chillicothe Street
Resurfacing project on 2 routes in
3 counties near the Village of Plain City including Chillicothe
Street (old US 42) from Pastime Street (Old UNI-42) to Main
Street (old MAD 42). Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with
flaggers.
State Route 38
Preventative maintenance to include
microsurfacing and crack sealing on SR 38 in Madison County.
Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.

Pickaway County
U.S. 23
Bridge deck replacement over
Griffy’s Run and Walnut Creek. Bridge deck repair over the CSX
railroad. Maintain 1 lane in each direction on the existing 4
lane section. Partial width construction over the railroad. Full
width construction with crossovers for the two bridges over the
water.
Preventative maintenance project to
include microsurfacing and crack sealing on US 23. On 2 lane
highways, maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers. On
ramps, part width construction maintaining 1 lane. On multilane
highways, maintain at least 1 lane of traffic in each direction.
U.S. 62
Resurfacing 7 miles of US 62 from
the Madison County line to the Franklin County line. Maintain 1
lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
State Route 56
Bridge deck replacement over Scippo
Creek. Work includes expansion joint replacement, patching, and
sealing of the substructure and bridge painting. Maintain 1 lane
of 2-way traffic with a temporary signal.
State Route 104
Bridge replacement over an unnamed
tributary to the Scioto River between Hiner Road and Durrett
Road. SR 104 will close for 21 days. The detour route is SR 762
to US 23 to SR 665 and reverse. The bridge must be open for the
Tour of the Scioto Valley (May 10-11) and the Circleville
Pumpkin Show (Oct 15-19).
Bridge repair over the Big Darby Creek including replacement of
the abutments, approach slabs, and portions of the deck. SR 104
will close for 45 days over Big Darby Creek and a detour will be
provided. The remaining work will be done under traffic control
with flaggers.
Union County
U.S. 33
Deck repair and overlay of the
Mitchell-Dewitt Road bridge over US 33. Deck and approach slab
replacement of SR 4 bridge over Bokes Creek. The Mitchell-Dewitt
Road bridge will close for 14 days. Detour is Industrial Parkway
to Brock Road to Hyland & Croy Road to McKitrick Road and
reverse. Single lane closures on US 33 from 7 pm – 6 am. The SR
4 bridge will close for 60 days. Detour is SR 347 to SR 37 and
reverse.
Interchange upgrade of US 33/SR 161/Post Road to include
interchange reconfiguration, ramp relocation, and other
improvements. Maintain at least 1 lane in each direction on SR
161 and 2 lanes per direction during peak hours on US 33. Short
duration ramp closures with detours will occur.
Preventative maintenance including
microsurfacing and crack sealing on various routes including US
33. On 2 lane highways maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with
flaggers. On ramps, part width construction maintaining 1 lane.
On multilane highways, maintain at least 1 lane of traffic in
each direction.
U.S. 42
Resurfacing project on US 42
through 2 counties including just over 5 miles in Union County
from Watkins-California Road to the Delaware ` County line.
Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers.
State Route 4
Partial pavement repair and
resurfacing project on SR 4 through 3 counties including 2 miles
in Union County from SR 37 to the Delaware County line. Maintain
1 lane of 2-way traffic with flaggers daily. No work permitted
from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
State Route 37
Resurfacing nearly 7 miles of SR 37
from SR 739 to SR 4. Culvert replacement and pavement raising
just south of the Village of Essex. Maintain 1 lane of 2-way
traffic with flaggers except during 10 day closure for culvert
replacement. Detour is SR 739 to SR 31 to SR 47 and reverse.
State 739
Eliminate the current at grade
crossing of SR 739 and CSX railroad by providing a grade
separation using a bridge. Maintain the existing 1 lane in each
direction by constructing a temporary pavement around the work
areas. Occasional single lane closures with flaggers will occur
during off-peak hours.
Main Street
Resurfacing project on 2 routes in
3 counties near the Village of Plain City including Main Street.
(old US 42) from Chillicothe Street (old MAD 42) just west of
Guy Street (old UNI 42). Maintain 1 lane of 2-way traffic with
flaggers.
